Verify the authenticity of a health insurance card and its holder in real time
The health insurance card is a card for managing a country’s health insurance systems. It contains various information about the identity of the holder and his or her social security coverage. In order to manage health insurance and social security systems, many countries have created cards and numbers to identify the social security coverage of individuals. The health insurance card is in the form of a bank card and contains a chip. In Canada and the United Kingdom, there is a national insurance number. On the European Union side, there is a European Health Insurance Card that can be used in the states of the European Union.
Some companies, which verify the identity of their customers remotely, mainly use identity card or passport verification. However, it is sometimes necessary to collect additional documentation to confirm a person’s identity. Collecting a second identity document is recommended in cases of doubt concerning a person’s identity in article 39 of the fifth directive from the ACPR (the French prudential supervision and resolution authority).
Health insurance card verification to confirm a person’s identity
The additional document must contain information that confirms the customer’s identity, i.e. full name and date and/or place of birth for natural persons. One possibility is thus a health insurance card, as long as the part of the social security number not needed for identity verification (the last five digits) is masked when capturing the card. Requesting and verifying this document can be very useful, especially for young people who do not yet have a passport or driving license.
The health insurance card becomes a document to prove one’s identity. And it is for these reasons that it becomes necessary to integrate a health insurance card verification.
