Service Description

Everyday transactional and financial documents — such as invoices, receipts, bank statements, payslips, and contracts — typically lack built-in integrity safeguards, making them prime targets for falsification and fraud. IDnow SmartStamp addresses this critical gap by generating and applying a 2D-Doc Visible Electronic Stamp (VES) — in the form of a 2D barcode — to any document, whether printed or digital, in a matter of seconds.

A 2D-Doc VES contains essential document information in plain text — including document type, issuer identity, key identifying details, and issue date. Furthermore, it provides a cryptographic hash of this data, electronically signed by the issuer using an asymmetric mechanism (private/public key pair); any party holding the issuer’s public key can verify the document’s authenticity and confirm the integrity of its contents.

Key Capabilities

It entails a three-step process:

1. Generation: Using data transmitted by the document issuer, SmartStamp generates 2D-Doc stamps on the fly, without retaining any of the transmitted data — ensuring full data privacy.
2. Application: The service integrates seamlessly with the client’s existing composition and printing tools to apply the stamp to both paper and digital documents.
3. Verification: Stamps can be verified instantly via a 2D-Doc Reader application or through document verification solutions such as the IDCheck API, enabling automated and scalable authenticity checks.

ARIADNEXT by IDnow was the first Certification Authority to be referenced by ANTS (Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés) and authorised for the issuance of 2D-Doc certificates. The solution operates within an eIDAS-certified framework at LCP (Lightweight Certificate Policy) level, attesting to compliance with EU quality and security requirements for electronic certification services. The underlying infrastructure is further backed by ISO 27001 certification, ensuring robust information security management.
